The Winter Stream

A rocky stream winds through snow-covered conifers below Alpine peaks near St. Moritz. Craig places the photograph during the Christmas holidays of 1983-84. The exposed water gives the snowy landscape a dark, winding center, leading the eye between the banks toward the mountain backdrop. Small openings around rocks reveal the stream's continuing movement. The scene preserves a winter contrast between the still appearance of the forest and the water making its way through it.
