Forest Below the Peaks

Snow-covered conifers fill a valley near St. Moritz beneath distant Alpine peaks and a pale blue sky. Craig remembers making the photograph during the week between Christmas and New Year, when winter had gathered across the landscape. The eye moves from the dense pattern of the forest to the open light above it. Snow softens the trees without erasing their individual shapes, while the mountains give the scene a larger frame and a sense of space beyond the woods.
