A Feat of Engineering
Shot on FilmHoover Dam's immense concrete curve spans a rocky canyon above the power station. Craig photographed it in 1987, setting smooth engineering against the fractured surfaces of the surrounding desert. Built during the Great Depression, the project also brought Boulder City into being to house its workers. Small structures below the dam make its scale tangible. The photograph invites the eye to follow the broad curve, then pause over the many human details gathered beneath it.
