Flowers by the Sea

Red flowers border a beach overlooking small boats and windsurfers on calm water. Craig tentatively places this scene near Limassol, Cyprus, in 1983. Craig's coastal photograph moves from a close garden detail to the open space of the bay, joining two different ways of enjoying the shore. Bright petals give the foreground a lively accent, while the distant sails and boats remain small within the pale water. The layered composition encourages the eye to linger nearby before following the view out toward the sea.
