The Village Steeple

A stone church steeple rises above Bavarian village rooftops beneath snowy mountains and a softly colored sky. Craig places the photograph in West Germany in 1981 or 1982. The tower gives the eye a path from the clustered buildings toward the mountain backdrop, bringing the village and its larger setting into one composition. Muted light keeps the details gentle, allowing stone, rooflines and distant snow to sit together in a view shaped by both daily life and the surrounding country.
